Big News from Margo Miller
Never in a million years would I have imagined that I would have the opportunity to steward the cutting-edge social change work on the forefront of eliminating systemic barriers of poverty and oppression here in the region I call home. I started this journey with the Appalachian Community fund close to 15 years ago and served more than 12 years as director. It’s now time for me to pass the torch.
It’s been a wild and wonderful ride. It wasn’t always easy. There were times when I wasn’t too sure we could hold it together, but here we are. We made it. Thanks to y’all.
I’m going to deeply miss this work and the friends and allies I’ve met along the way. I’m going to miss signing grant checks the most.
I’ll always be a proud Black Appalachian Mountain Woman, so I’ll stay connected to the movement work in the region. It’s just time for me to start my next chapter and practice radical rest and recovery and pour into my creative self.
We have a brilliant team of folks who are eager to take us to the next level. When you get a chance, check out our website or join us at an event, so you can meet them yourself.
A transition team of board members, staff members, and ACF allies has developed a plan to identify and hire new leadership. The job announcement will come out within the next week or so.
I invite you to come and celebrate with me one last time, October 28, 2023. Get decked out and put on a costume and join us for our first ever Halloween Party in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Be on the lookout for your formal invitation.
As I leave the Appalachian Community Fund, I have no doubt that the work will continue to have a major impact throughout Central Appalachia (and beyond) and that the next leadership will be robust and ready to serve.
Thank you for being a part of this amazing journey.
Peace, love, and justice!
