Appalachian Hero Awards
Starting Movements, Sparking Change
The Appalachian Hero Award is presented to individuals or organizations in Central Appalachia who have made a substantial contribution to the social justice movement.
Awardees receive $100 for a social change organization of their choosing.
Appalachian Heroes are individuals or organizations that:
demonstrate leadership and a long-standing commitment to social justice in the region; or
mobilize communities around critical community issues; or
work to leverage assets or have made a significant financial commitment and investment to the region through ACF; or
are an emerging leader (under age 25) having shown leadership, vision, and courage in addressing injustices, or having organized other young people to
address larger issues such as LGBTQ equity and rights, bullying, racism, etc.
