We share here what we do know about financial and health impacts for working folks and their families.Stimulus payments: Questions and answers regarding the emergency payments being made to due to the coronavirus crisis can be found at https://www.yahoo.com/news/coronavirus-checks-direct-deposits-coming-105454070.htmlAccording to The New York Times, “Most adults would get $1,200, although some would get less. For every child age 16 or under, the payment would be an additional $500…. Single adults with Social Security numbers who have an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less would get the full amount. Married couples with no children earning $150,000 or less would receive a total of $2,400.”The payments that will be sent out over the next month will be distributed to the IRS address of record for you and/or your family or direct deposit if that has been previously used. If you did not file 2018 taxes, the New York reports, ‘Those without 2018 tax filings on record could potentially affect mailings of stimulus checks.’”  File a return as soon as possible. This information may be subject to update soon.Unemployment Benefits: If you have lost your job due to the coronavirus pandemic, you can find out how to file for unemployment payments through “Make It” provided by CNBC. The web site includes information on payment levels in all states. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/18/how-to-file-for-unemployment-due-to-coronavirus.htmlVirginia and Kentucky have lifted the waiting period for unemployment benefits.  It is recommended that you apply online immediately.

Should you apply to receive unemployment benefits if you lost your job due to this crisis?  YES           probably… get into the system. “…if an employer needs to temporarily slow or cease operations due to COVID-19… If a worker has been issued a notice to self-quarantine by a medical or public health official and is not receiving paid sick or medical leave from their employer, they may be eligible to receive unemploy-ment benefits. In addition, a worker may be eligible for unemployment benefits if they must stay home to care for an ill family member and are not receiving paid family medical leave from their employer.”From The New York Times: “Those who are unemployed, partially unemployed or who cannot work for a wide variety of coronavirus-related reasons would be more likely to receive benefits.”
