We Dream the Day

when Appalachia’s land,
air and water
are saved from destruction
and contamination;
where the economy is stable, strong,
and provides diverse
employment opportunities
for all people;
where government and industry
are accountable to human needs
without exploitation of people
and their health;
where justice, equity,
appreciation of diversity
and celebration of our common humanity
replace racism, sexism, heterosexism
and other “isms”;
where wealth and resources
are shared equally;
where all children grow up free
from hatred and violence;
and where justice
overcomes oppression
in all forms.*

Here at ACF We Dream the Day when all of this vision is true. Readers like you have been a big part of that dream. Thank you. We want you to continue to dream with us.

In the next month, we will post “An Appalachian Journey Toward Justice -- a report that proudly tells the story of our recent work and honors the changes being brought about by the people of Central Appalachia against the greatest odds. As you read the report, I hope that you know that without financial support from readers like you, we would not be able to do our work.

As We Dream the Day, there are values that help build these dreams.

We Value . . .
  • The natural and human resources that make Appalachia a rich and diverse region.
  • Seeing, sharing and creating the connections among people, communities, environment, the region and the world.
  • Leadership of people involved in issues and action.
  • Equality of people and equity in practice.
  • Building a sense of community and promoting inclusiveness.
  • Sharing of stories and experience to build relationships, leadership and solidarity.
  • Celebration of culture, heritage, survival, community, and victories for justice.
  • Speaking out and standing up.
  • The critical importance of anti-racism work as a part of bringing about social change.
  • Diversity of voices, experience, and geography.
  • Decision-making that is built on consensus, equal participation, and shared leadership.
  • Accountability, friendliness and openness to our donor partners, our grantee partners and all allies who seek justice.
  • Grassroots experience, skills, wisdom and plain good sense.

We believe that you share these values because you have read this far. We hope that you can make your financial contribution before June 30.

Thank you again for dreaming with us and for being a part of making change happen here in our beautiful region of Central Appalachia.

Keep an eye out for the report. We hope you enjoy it!

Peace, love, and light,
Margo Miller
