CALL FOR NOMINATIONSAppalachian Hero Award

The Appalachian Community Fund is proud to call for nominations for the Appalachian Hero Awards! The Appalachian Hero Award is presented to an individual or organization in the region who has made a substantial contribution to the social justice movement in Central Appalachia on our Journey toward Justice.

The recipient of the award will be given $100 to go to their social change organization of choice.

We are currently searching for you East Tennessee Appalachian Hero.

Criteria: an individual or organization who

  • demonstrates leadership and a long-standing commitment to social justice in the region; or
  • organizes/mobilizes communities around critical and long-standing community issues (i.e. access to health care, job creation, mountain top removal and energy extraction); or
  • works to leverage assets or has made a significant financial commitment and investment to the region through the Appalachian Community Fund; or
  • is an emerging leader (under age 25) who has shown leadership, vision and courage in addressing injustices, organized other youth to address larger issues such as LGBTQ equity and rights, bullying, racism, etc.
